Richard Groven
Richard Groven, 73, of Shevlin, MN and formerly of Northwood, ND, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Richard Groven was born July 5, 1944 in Northwood, ND to Orville and Joyce Groven. He lived in Grand Forks, ND and graduated from Central High School in 1962. Richard attended UND, worked for Great Northern Railroad, and worked for Boeing on the Minute Man Missile Project in Montana. Richard married Sharon Skavlem in 1966, making their home west of Northwood. Sharon passed away in 2002. Richard farmed from 1969-2010. He married Mary Ann Shetterly in 2009.
Richard was actively involved in agricultural and community organizations, including the North Dakota Barley Council, the National Barley Growers Association, the Soil Conservation District, Northern Crops Council, Church Council at NELC and the Township Board. Richard traveled to Japan, China, Taiwan, Australia, much of South America and Washington D.C. promoting U.S. barley and other crops as a farming advocate.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; children: Kristin (Ryan) Mitchell, Kevin (Melissa) Groven, Keith (Casie) Groven; grandchildren: Emma, Jake (Mitchell), Lily, Gunnar, Nora, Brigit, Addilyn, Jenna; step-children: Steven (Dawn), Mark (Jessica), Aaron (Kiley) Lagergren; step-grandchildren: Nora, Holly, Anna, Mae, Teagen, Hayden and Kaplan Lagergren; brother, James (Carol) Groven, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Orville and Joyce Groven; wife, Sharon; and brother, Orville Jr.
