Duane "Butch" Fontaine

April 19,1944-September 9,2023

Duane Fontaine of Mesa, AZ, died on 9/9/2023 following a brief care under Hospice. He was born on 4/19/44 in Grand Forks, ND, to Meddie and May (Miller) Fontaine. He graduated from Central HS and attended UND. He married Bette Wichterman on 8/19/67. They made their home in Grand Forks for 42 years. He was primarily employed by the City of GF on the Police dept. and later Waste Water Dept. In 1986 they purchase a lake home on Movil Lake in the Bemidji area. They have many wonderful memories of time at the lake as well as travels throughout the US and other countries and especially enjoyed their stays in Hawaii. After retirement they started spending winters in AZ and for the last year made AZ home. He is survived by sons Scott (Alissa Hohmann) of Grand Forks and Tim (Angie Schefter) of Fountain Hills, AZ; grandchildren Chasie Fontaine, Brandon Fontaine, and Seth Fontaine all of Grand Forks; step grandchildren Zack, Kalle, and Karli Hohmann-Wavra of Grand Forks; and Kaylynn (Gavyn) Erickson of Oahu, HI; and two step-great grandchildren Rylan and Laitynn Erickson and many nieces and nephews. Funeral was held on 9/21/2023 at 10a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Mesa, AZ with interment at Mountain View Cemetery
