Vincent J. Halvorson, 62, Beatrice, died Thursday, February 01, 2007 at the Beatrice Community Hospital.? He was born September 1, 1944, Sharon, North Dakota.? He attended school at Loma, Blabon, Petersburg and 4th through 10th at Dahlen, North Dakota.? He graduated in 1962 from Grand Forks Central High School, Grand Forks, North Dakota.? He attended the University of North Dakota receiving his Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in 1967.? He married Judy Burton on February 11, 1967 at East Grand Forks, Minnesota.? He started his career in 1967 as a park historian at the Grand Canyon, moved to Chicamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park, TN and at Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina.? He was the Park Superintendent at the Homestead National Monument, Beatrice and the Pipestone National Park, Pipestone, Minnesota. He retired from the National Park Service in 1993. He was a past member of the Noon Kiwanis Club of Beatrice.? ?He enjoyed gourmet cooking, hunting, fishing, the outdoors, gardening and working on his computer.? His grandsons were very special to him.? He volunteered at the Homestead National Monument after retirement where he photographed and documented the scheduled burning of the prairie grasslands. He loved the park service being an advocate of the National Parks.

 

Survivors:? wife, ?Judy of Beatrice; daughter,? Erin Schuld and husband Jeff of San Antonio, TX; 2 grandsons,? Dustyn and Jordyn Schuld of San Antonio, TX; sisters,? Marlys Halvorson of Las Cruces , New Mexico; Helene Pomerantz and husband Ed of Johnson City, TN; brother,? Corey Halvorson and wife Susan of Blackjack, MO; 10 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews.
