Cindy Olson

Cynthia S. “Cindy” Olson, 64, Grand Forks, ND passed away Friday, April 3, 2009 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND

Cynthia Sue Olson was born June 13, 1944 the daughter of Lyle F. and Margaret (Dunn) Olson in Grand Forks. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Central High School in 1962. She attended UND, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1978 with a B.S. in Business Education and Summa Cum Laude in 1982 with a B.S. in Library Science. In 1996 she graduated from St. Thomas University with an M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction. Cindy worked at the University of North Dakota and for the past 22 years has been the librarian at Central Middle School in East Grand Forks, M

Cindy was an extremely kind, caring, and compassionate person.  She had a tremendous amount of empathy for people and was always willing to listen and try to help others.  She was an avid reader from childhood on and turned her love of books into her profession as a librarian.  There was nothing she liked better then to pass on her love of reading to one of her students.  She could remember authors and titles like no one else and could always recommend a good book to read. In her younger years she played the piano and organ.  Cindy loved to collect, particularly items with a reading theme, and she had amassed quite an eclectic collection of beautiful things.  She had a huge personality and a great sense of humor and was always the life of the party.  She had the ability to make people feel welcome and at home.  If you were having a bad day, Cindy could always make things right.  She lived with her mother for many years and took such good care of her.  The last few years she lived with her sister and took good care of her.  We love her and miss her so much

She is survived by her sisters, Karen Bowles and Judy Carter both of Grand Forks, ND; nieces, Kim (Dan) Germain, Michelle Bowles and Kristi (Greg) Roe; a great nephew, Spencer Roe and several cousins. She is also survived by two Poodles, Cassie and Allie
